Located on the south end of Hilton Head Island, Forest Beach is separated by the Pope Avenue Circle. To the right of the circle is South Forest Beach and to the left of the circle is North Forest Beach. This area is unique as it is not located within in a Plantation, which most of the neighborhoods on Hilton Head Island are gated communities called Plantations. However this area is right in the heart of “downtown” or known as the “south-end” of Hilton Head, and both north and south Forest Beach are on the beach!
There is no shortage of things to do while staying in Forest Beach, and most of the activities don’t require the use of a car! Shopping, dining and entertainment are within walking distance or a bike ride away. Speaking of bike riding, this is one of the most popular activities to do on Hilton Head and there are a number of bike rental companies located on the south-end of the island and most deliver to your vacation rental as well. The bikes come in adult and kid sizes, so this is a fun activity for the whole family. The other obvious activity to partake in is the beach, our largest natural draw for vacationers. The beach is only a few steps away from almost all vacation rentals in Forest Beach!
While staying in Forest Beach, head over to Coligny Plaza and spend the day walking around and exploring the different stores, restaurants, and shows. There are a wide variety of shops including name brand clothing stores, specialty island souvenirs shops, toy stores, and beach and watersport stores. There’s also a wide variety of restaurants from seafood restaurants, pizza and subs, breakfast and brunch food, ice cream shops, and high-end dining. And to top it off, many restaurants with outdoor seating are pet friendly so let your pooch explore the day with you!
Water, water, water! When it comes to activities on Hilton Head, the ocean and rivers are host to endless activities, both relaxing and adrenalin thrilling. A fun family experience that the kids will get a kick out of is taking a dolphin tour. The dolphins literally come up to the boat to say “hi” and allow for great photo opportunities. Parasailing, boating, water-skiing, tubing, kayaking, jet skiing, fishing, and stand-up paddle boarding are some of the many water activities to partake. There are several watersport companies on the south-end that rent equipment by the day or hour or have guided tours.
Golf and tennis are huge sports on Hilton Head. Although no golf courses are located in Forest Beach, there are several public courses throughout the island including the Harbourtown Golf Links located in Sea Pines Plantation. If tennis is your game of choice, Forest Beach is home to the world famous Van Der Meer Tennis Center. No matter your tennis level, programs are offered and designed to enhance your game.
If you want to stay right on the beach and also be near (within walking or biking distance!) to all the activities Hilton Head has to offer, staying in Forest Beach is the right spot for your next Hilton Head Island vacation!
